Mobile phone + GPS module = NAVIGATION

Navigation scheme
NaviExpert GPS navigation scheme. GPS system is a collection of 32 satellites located on the Earth orbits (1). A GPS receiver takes bearings on GPS satellites and specifies location. NaviExpert system installed in a mobile phone (2) . In order to draw routes which avoid traffic jams NaviExpert communicates with NaviExpert servers(3).

For satellite navigation a computer and GPS receiver are necessary. Nowadays everyone carries on them at least one computer – a mobile phone.

Modern mobile phone is a quite capable computer. Its capacity may be compared to capacity of computers which not so long ago were the peak of technical concept. Not everyone knows that, but this “mobile” computer can connect to the Internet. Doing so, it applies GPRS, EDGE or UMTS technologies.

NaviExpert operates in online technology. It means that it connects to system servers in order to gain access to constantly updated maps and additional information, e.g. statistics of average driving speed applied in Community Traffic technology. In the server resources there is also most updated information on location of speed cameras and roadworks.

On the basis of all those data servers calculate the most suitable route to the destination on a given time of day and then send it to a mobile phone. NaviExpert program installed in a mobile phone, connecting with an in-built or external GPS receiver, obtains current position with a few metre precision.

This program during navigation also displays a map and produces voice messages giving directions to a destination. NaviExpert applies optimised data transfer providing minimal GPRS costs and quick data transfer.

What are the advantages of GPS navigation in online technology?

  • Maps on the server are updated constantly. Every user has access to updated maps. On the server we even place data concerning current roadworksworks.
  • Server may store enormous amount of data. These are not only digital maps, but also data concerning Community Traffic™ technology. Such collections of data could not be stored or processed in the memory of a mobile device.
  • Servers of NaviExpert system have an immense computing power. Therefore, they can apply the most advanced route optimisation algorithms, providing the quickest access to destination due to Community Traffic™ technology.
  • Since server connection is a two-way connection, a phone may also send data to a server. Due to this possibility, NaviExpert users may report new speed cameras and other points and participate in Community Traffic™ technology.
